About the Art Program
G-thamini Youth Group began its Art Program in 2015 as an outlet for the creative spirits of the young children of Mukuru Kwa Njenga. We are dedicated to empowering our youth with positive self-esteem and self-awareness in order to help them make the right choices in life.
The Art Program, under the direction of internationally acclaimed abstract figurative painter Simon Muriithi and team member Noor Abdullahi, has gained success in Eastern Africa. In 2018, the art program placed fifth out of the 32 schools participating in the Mask Prize Competition. And again in 2019, 12 year old art student, Evans Wambua won the Under 15’s at the Mask Prize Competition for his Spider print. During the COVID Pandemic, students from the Art Program also painted large public educational murals, brightening the streets of Mukuru.
Proceeds from the Art Sales will go directly to each artists as they continue their educational pursuits.
